Lush Celestial Moisturizer

30 Oct

Today, I thought I would fill you all in on a favorite part of my skincare routine. Moisturizers are the hardest thing for me to find. I have very sensitive, very dry skin and a lot of the time I react badly to moisturizers and end up looking like a pimply lobster (even with the moisturizers targeted towards my skin type). Several months ago, I had given up on yet another moisturizer I was trying out when I decided to check out what Lush had to offer. Now I had never tried any of Lush’s skincare, only their bath products, but I thought it was worth a shot. I explained my skincare woes to the lovely lady in the shop and she suggested I try this celestial moisturizer. I didn’t really have high hopes for it (not sure why), but after the first few uses I began to realize just how great of a product it is. First off, it smells lovely – like vanilla and almonds. It hydrates my skin without making me oily and it does not create any redness at all. In fact, I think it has helped to calm some of the redness in my skin. It doesn’t break me out at all and it has even helped to calm some of my eczema patches that never seem to go away.  It is a very heavy moisturizer, which I do need, but it’s a little much under makeup so I primarily use this at night. For a day moisturizer I tend to use the Origins Vitazing, but if I am having a particularly dry day I will use this instead. Basically, this moisturizer has been a god-send. I’ve never used anything that works this well for me and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone with similar skin issues. Since purchasing this moisturizer I have tried several other skincare products from Lush and I have been very pleased with them as well, making Lush my new go-to store for skincare!

Tell me, have you ever tried any of Lush’s skincare? What’s your favorite product from Lush?

MAC Marilyn Monroe Collection Beauty Powder in Forever Marilyn

25 Oct

For the last product I picked up from the Marilyn Monroe collection I thought I would would show you all the product I was least likely to buy, but have been enjoying the most. When I was perusing this collection, I never even looked twice at this beauty powder. I wasn’t really sure how I would use it and didn’t think it was anything all that special. That was until the makeup artist at the MAC counter tried it on me. Now I have to say that I am a bit obsessed with finding the perfect highlighter. I find many of them to be too sparkly or too sheeny, so when she showed this one to me I was floored. This powder isn’t sparkly at all and it’s just enough lighter than my skin tone to create a highlight without it looking obvious. It gives my skin a sort of soft glow that actually reminds me a lot of old Hollywood actresses like Marilyn Monroe. I think this powder works beautifully on fair skin tones like mine, but I also think it would work on darker tones as well. All in all I am totally in love with this product and I really think it is the stand out product in the line.

What is your favorite highlighter? Would you have picked this product up immediately or passed it by like I was going to?

Nail of the Day: Orly Rage

22 Oct

This weekend I made a quick trip to Sally’s for a few things and ended up picking up a nail polish that I’ve always heard great things about. Orly’s Rage is a rose gold metallic polish that is sparkly without being glittery. I’m not normally a huge fan of metallic polishes, but I had seen so many people rave about this shade that I felt like I should at least give it a go. And boy am I glad I did! The rosiness of the shade makes it rather different from the standard gold and silver metallic polishes and makes it compliment my porcelain skin tone very well. I was a bit worried that this shade would be a little too summery for the current season, but I actually think it is going to be great for the holidays because it’s sparkly without being over the top. Overall, I am very impressed and I think this product is definitely worth the hype.

Tell me, do you like metallic polishes? Have you tried this one?
